FAQ

Here are our Frequently Asked Questions. If you still need assistance please feel free to contact us.

How do I acquire a library card?
To obtain a library card, you will need to have a proof of address – such as a piece of mail, checkbook or driver’s license. Once you fill out a membership application, you will be issued a library card.

How long can I check out a book for?
Books are available to be checked out for a two-week time period. Books may be renewed if they are not on a reserve list.

How much are fines and how do I pay for them?
Fines are 10 cents per day. We take both cash and checks.

I have some books to donate to the library. What is the process for doing so?
Books must be delivered to the library where there are carts and helpers to get them inside. We do not assign value to donated items, but can give a tax donation receipt that states number of items donated. All items donated become property of the library. If not used in the library collection, books may be sold in the library’s book sale room. All profits from book sales are used for library support.

Am I able to send faxes at the library?
Yes, the library fax number is 641-856-6135. It costs 50 cents per page to receive a fax. The library charges one dollar per page to send a fax. Faxes sent to a toll free number are free.

I do not live in Centerville, can I still check out materials?
Yes, library cards are available to all residents of Iowa free-of-charge. Out-of-state residents must pay a $20 annual fee.

What if the Drake Public Library doesn’t have a book or DVD that I’m looking for?
If the library doesn’t have a book or DVD that you are looking for, we can interlibrary loan or borrow a book from another Iowa library. There is a $3.00 fee to help offset postage per request.
